  4. How do I know what type of kayak I need?
For the inexperienced or unfamiliar, choosing a kayak can be an overwhelming process. We understand this and have designed our category listings and product tags to assist you in picking the right kayak.

There are two primary factors in selecting the right kayak for you: First, try to determine how you intend to use your kayak (Whitewater, Touring, Fishing, a combination of several, etc.); Second, gauge your skill level to the best of your ability, taking into account the frequency of your usage and the corresponding speed at which your skills are improving. This will help you prevent outgrowing your investment shortly after acquiring it.

Once you have selected a category from the home page, you will notice on the left side of the page an area labeled "Product Tags" which is designed to help you narrow down remaining options, capabilities, and styles for your kayak. For example, you know you are interested in a "Transitional" kayak because of its versatility, but you also want the ease of storage that accommodates "Inflatable" kayaks, and you need a "Tandem" (two-seater) for you and your friend to paddle together. You would select Transitional from the home page, and then look at the left column under product tags for Inflatable and Tandem. Click on the tag to be redirected to a page displaying kayaks that match your criteria.

  5. Do you carry kayaks specifically designed for women and children?
Yes! We have purposely selected several manufacturers due to their provision of kayaks specifically designed for women and children.

You can find these kayaks by selecting a category from the homepage and then looking at the left column under "Product Tags." If we carry a womens' or childrens' kayak version within that category, you will see "Women" and/or "Youth" product tags. Click on the tag to be redirected to a page displaying those kayaks only.

  6. Which manufacturers are the best?
As stated on our homepage, we have selected only the highest quality and most reputable brands for your convenience so you do not have to worry about whether you are making the right choice. Each manufacturer we carry is prominent in the industry, and several are leading innovators. Necky Kayaks is probably one of the most reputable and well-known brands, while Atlyak and Point 65 are, by comparison, fairly new to the industry but have received very favorable reviews from the kayaking community along with praise for their innovations.

You can rest assured that no matter which brand you select, you will receive a quality product from a reputable brand.

And do not forget our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee!

  7. What is the difference between the "Lightweight" and "Composite Construction" kayak product tags?
This is a great question. Generally, both are lighter than standard versions of similar kayaks. However, we have elected to tag kayaks that are significantly lighter than their similar counterparts as "Lightweight." Those kayaks tagged as "Composite Construction" are indeed lighter than standard material versions, although they are not reaching the same level of weight savings of kayaks tagged as "Lightweight."

Essentially, you may think of "Composite Construction" as an indicator that the kayak is indeed lighter than most of its counterparts, while "Lightweight" may be considered as the ultimate in weight savings.

  8. What is the difference between the "Multi-Day Touring" and "Touring" kayak product tags?
Kayaks tagged as "Touring" are designed specifically for day trips on the water. They provide enough storage and cockpit space to comfortably accommodate you and enough gear for an entire day of paddling fun.

The "Multi-Day Touring" kayak product tag indicates that the kayak was specifically designed for multi-day excursions on the water. Kayaks bearing this tag provide enough storage and cockpit space to comfortably accommodate you and enough gear for an entire weekend of carving.

It is also helpful to note that both product tags imply ergonomically designed features catering to trips of longer duration to reduce fatigue, allowing you to focus on having a great time paddling instead of wondering how far it is to the next rest stop.

  9. Do some kayaks meet criteria for more than one category?
Yes! In fact, many of them do. However, to make things easier for you, our customer, we have selected a primary category for each kayak and then provided product tags to indicate other categories that are applicable.

Additionally, the "Transitional" category encompasses a number of kayaks that are not designed for a specific purpose, but rather for all-around usage and skill levels. Once inside the category, we still provide product tags for the other categories covered by the design.

  10. Do you carry any Eco-Friendly kayaks?
Absolutely! We are proud to include a collection of 100% Recycled Plastic kayaks. Just look for the "Eco-Friendly" product tag once inside a category or manufactuer.

It is important to note that these kayaks are built with the same level of quality and achieve the same levels of performance as their standard material counterparts.

  11. What is a "Fishing" kayak?
Also known as "angler" kayaks, these kayaks are designed specifically for those who enjoy the exercise of paddling themselves around while being able to reach hard-to-navigate fishing spots - which we all know are often the best!

These kayaks are outfitted with fishing-specific gear and accessories, such as rod holders and special storage compartments among other features.

  12. Are "Inflatable" kayaks inferior to "Hard-Shell" kayaks?
It is easy to understand why some would make the assumption that inflatable kayaks do not perform as well as hard-shell kayaks. However, the technology that has led to the innovative designs of inflatable kayaks has been field-tested and proven. In fact, the materials used for inflatable kayaks are incredibly similar to - if not the same as - the materials used for whitewater rafts, which we all know to be phenomenally durable.

Of course, there will always be certain performance characteristics that change in correlation with material changes. Ultimately, the individual will have to decide which characteristics are necessary to accomplish their paddling goals as there are advantages to both designs.
